PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL: How to color comic book line art in Photoshop
Need to color your B&W comic book art or other illustrations, for print or just for the web? Here's how the pros do it using Photoshop...

Even More coloring:

On the previous page I colored a few easy items in my drawing by selecting the areas with the Magic Wand tool, expanded by 3 pixels, then used the "Fill" command with my color of choice. Now I'm going to use the same method to color some more easy-to-color areas. Here's what my ape is looking like now... (See figure 4)

Figure 4: it's starting to take effect!

Some areas may be more difficult to color, where there is a lot of detailed line work or cross-hatching in an area, such as the ape's hair. I want to color it blue, but can't select that all the hair with e Magic Wand tool because of all the cross-hatching in the hair, so in a case like this it is best to use the Lasso tool to select all the hair I want to color. Zooming in close, I simply click my way around the outside of the hair with the Lasso tool until I've got everything I want to color selected. Then, I hit "Fill" with my blue color and, presto, the hair is blue. When using the Lasso too, or the Marquee tool to select an area to color it is not necessary to expand the selection by 3 pixels. If you've done it right you should have included some of the line outside line art in the selection. (See figure 5: my ape's hair colored blue)

Figure 5: the ape now has blue hair. Yowza!
